Christopher Donovan’s Ex Financial Advisor Faces Sentencing

Whenever you’re dealing with brokerage services or letting other people handle your money, you have to be careful to ensure that you’re dealing with people you can truly trust. There is so much crookedness in the world today, and that crookedness isn’t just relegated to local brokerage services or to small-town financial advisors. Take, for example, Robert Braddock Jr. Braddock was the finance director for Connecticut’s former Speaker of the House, Christopher Donovan. Unfortunately, however, Braddock didn’t prove as trustworthy as he let on at first; he was recently convicted of accepting falsified campaign contributions and is set to receive his sentence on September 2nd, 2013.

Though Braddock could face a myriad of possible punishments, his lawyer is lobbying for a sentence that doesn’t include time in prison. Braddock’s prosecutors, however, would like to see him spend anywhere from 41 to 51 months in prison. The decision will ultimately be left up to United States District Court Judge Janet Bond Arterton, but things aren’t looking up for Braddock. There is speculation that his high-profile status could cause the judge to make an example of him by enforcing a harsh punishment.

No matter what happens, it’s undoubtedly been a long and trying few months for Braddock, who was convicted in May. He and eight others were indicted on charges related to the falsified campaign funds, and all have pleaded guilty to their charges.

This goes to show that crime doesn’t pay, ever! Naperville residents are encouraged to be honest and upright in all their financial dealings and to be incredibly selective about the people whom they allow to manage their money.
