The holiday season is coming fast, which means lots of
get-togethers with family and friends. And, while you and yours are sure to
have plenty to talk about, why not discuss something meaningful that could be helpful
to everyone involved: retirement planning.
While this might not seem like the most exciting topic in
the world, it is an important one, one that all the people you love need to
know about. So, there really is no better time to discuss it than when you’re
all gathered together!
Talk About Your Goals
No one wants to be that person who puts a damper on the
holiday gatherings by talking about financial matters. However, if you keep
things positive, you can talk about important issues without bringing down the
mood.
So, when you start talking about retirement, do so in a
positive way. Ask your loved ones what their goals are. Whether they want to
travel the world or move to a new country, they’re sure to tell you all about
it.
Once you know their
goals, it’s easy to help them see that they need to start planning for
retirement if they want to achieve them.
Talk About Potential
Obstacles
Obviously, you want your loved ones to be able to reach
their retirement goals and to live comfortably and happily in their golden
years.
To ensure that can happen, though, find a way to talk to
them about potential obstacles they may face in retirement. Then, help them
come up with a “game plan” to overcome these obstacles or refer them to someone
who can, like a professional financial adviser.
While retirement may not be what you WANT to talk about this
holiday season, it’s worth it to take a few minutes to discuss it with those
you love. It will only help them in the long run, and really, helping and
loving others is what this season is all about!
